In desperate need of an immediate response when they return to Premier League duties this weekend, Manchester United will make the trip to the Amex when they meet Brighton on Saturday lunchtime.

While the former champions might have eventually to come past Championship outfit Luton in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night, they could only mark their return to action with what was a worrying 3-1 hammering at the hands of Crystal Palace.

On the flip side, while Manchester United might have some real question marks surrounding them, Brighton cruised past Preston on their travels earlier in the week and appear to be enjoying an early-season purple patch.

However, while the Seagulls might have also managed to land a 3-0 romp away at St. James’ Park last weekend, they do hold what is a worrying record against Saturday’s guests.

Including a 3-0 defeat when they welcomed United to the Amex back in June, the South Coast side have lost all three of their last meetings against the former champions. You might be interested to know a similar away victory on Saturday can be found priced at 3/4 with Bet365.

Brighton’s defensive resolve

Although on paper Brighton might have opened the New Year with a 3-1 defeat against Chelsea a fortnight ago, they did ask the Blues a string of questions and they appear to have really found their feet under Graham Potter.

Really enjoying their EFL Cup run this year after landing back-to-back victories against Portsmouth and Preston, there is no doubt that the Seagulls shocked many with their performance away at Newcastle last weekend.

Getting out of the traps early and leaving St. James’ Park with what was a deserved 3-0 romp on their travels, some have even tipped Potter’s side as a potential dark horse this time around.

Although Brighton might have shown some worrying issues on home soil over the summer, the one-time Swansea boss will be hugely excited by his side’s new-found resolve at the back.

Recording yet another clean sheet away at Deepdale in midweek, Saturday’s hosts have now left unscathed in each of their last three victories on the bounce for the first time since October 2018.

United seeking a bounce

After crashing out of the Europa League out in Germany last month at the hands of eventual winners Sevilla, there is no doubt that Manchester United couldn’t have wished for a tougher start to proceedings last weekend.

Putting in a worrying display at Old Trafford and hit with a 3-1 defeat against Crystal Palace on their season-opener, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be demanding the most clinical responses from his side at the Amex.

With both Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford bagging two late goals away at Championship side Luton while on EFL Cup duties in midweek, United should take some solace from what was a very impressive away day run over the summer.

Signing off last year’s extended campaign with an eye-catching 2-0 win away at Leicester, a result that secured their Champions League return, the Red Devils won each of their final four Premier League matchups away from Old Trafford.

You might be interested to know, along with scoring at least a pair of goals in all of those away day victories, United have also bagged over 1.5 goals in their last four straight meetings against Saturday’s hosts.

Solskjaer’s men are priced at 4/5 with Betfair to once again land over 1.5 goals on the South Coast this weekend.
