Odds slashed on Newcastle relegation following Bruce link

The odds have been slashed on Newcastle United to be relegated since Steve Bruce became the favourite for the vacant managerial role at St James’ Park – according to bookmaker SportNation.Bet.

The Magpies were tipped for a top eight finish just last month with rumours of a billionaire buying the club but are now just 5/2 to be relegated this season, making them serious contenders to fall through the Premier League trap door for the second time in four years.

Adding Ayoze Perez’s move to Leicester City into the mix, only Brighton (2/1), Aston Villa (8/5), Burnley (8/5), Norwich City (10/11) and Sheffield United (5/7) are now more likely to be relegated.

It would complete the hat-trick for Bruce, who has already suffered relegation to the Championship with Birmingham and the more recent Hull City.

A SportNation.bet spokesperson said: “The pain seems to never end for those diehard Newcastle fans. Just last month there was talk of a reported billionaire takeover and the links with Kylian Mbappe – now Rafa Benitez and Ayoze Perez have left the club and Bruce, who managed their bitter rivals Sunderland, looks set to take over with relegation a real possibility”.
