In what could prove to be a fiery derby showdown on Sunday lunchtime, Sheffield United will be desperate to find some momentum when they welcome Leeds to Bramall Lane.

Quickly becoming one of the Premier League’s exciting outfits, Leeds managed to land their first victory of the season last week as they held onto a dramatic 4-3 win against Fulham and dodged what could have been a real collapse.

On the flip side, still appearing to show the same issues that haunted them over the summer, Sheffield United were hit with a 1-0 defeat away at Villa Park on Monday evening and are one of just five top-flight sides who have suffered back-to-back losses.

However, while the Blades might be in the midst of an extended blip, it should be noted that Sunday’s hosts picked up an impressive 1-0 victory when they last faced off against their local rivals last year.

The toothless Blades

While Sheffield United might have cemented their spot as the Premier League’s surprise package last season, the Blades appear to be a shell of their former selves since returning from the enforced break back in June.

With skipper John Egan shown a controversial straight red at Villa Park earlier in the week, Chris Wilder’s men were hit with a 1-0 defeat on the road and have opened up the 2020/2021 campaign without a single point to their name.

Even more concerning for Sunday’s hosts, Sheffield United have now lost their last five straight Premier League appearances continuing on from the summer and many around Bramall Lane have been open about their recent issues in front of goal.

With it no secret that Wilder is keen on bringing in another attacking option before the window slams shut next month, the Blades are yet to record a single strike in their opening two contests and have recorded just a single strike on their continued five-match losing run.

A tale of two halves for Leeds

Really bursting onto the Premier League scene this summer and opening their top-flight return with that stunning 4-3 defeat at Anfield on the opening weekend, Leeds were at it again last week.

Making a return to Elland Road and facing off against fellow returners Fulham, Marcelo Bielsa’s men this time managed to come away with their own 4-3 victory, even if they just about managed to claw themselves over the finish line.

While the former Napoli boss will be hugely concerned by his side’s rather glaring issues at the back, he will take some solace from the fact that last year’s leading marksman Patrick Bamford has managed to hit the ground running.

Extending on his tally last weekend and finding the net against the Cottagers last weekend, the former Chelsea starlet has now recorded back-to-back Premier League strikes and will once again get the nod to lead their line.

You might be interested to know that Bamford can be found priced at 2/1 with Betfair to extend on his early-season purple patch in Sunday’s Yorkshire derby.
