After just about managing to scrape a top-six finish last season, Tottenham will be looking to get off to a flying start on Sunday afternoon when they welcome Everton to an empty North London.

While Spurs might have shown some real signs of improvement at the back end of the 2019/2020 campaign, the Lilywhites could only end their summer pre-season preparations with a shock 2-1 defeat away at recently relegated Watford last weekend.

On the flip side, failing to mount any real charge for European football last season after what was a hugely disappointing campaign at Goodison Park, Everton have spent big this summer and Carlo Ancelotti’s new-look squad will be looking to cause an upset in the capital this weekend.

However, it should be noted that Sunday’s hosts do hold what is an impressive record against the Toffees.

Including a 1-0 win when they welcomed Everton to North London back in July, Spurs are unbeaten in each of their last 16 meetings against the Blues, a run that stems back to 2012. You might be interested to know that a home victory this weekend is priced at 4/5 with Bet365.

Spurs welcome Kane back

Watching their three-match pre-season winning run come to an abrupt end thanks to a shock 2-1 loss away at now-Championship outfit Watford last weekend, there is no doubt that Spurs will be glad to make a return to home soil on Sunday afternoon.

Managing to shock many and clinch a last-gasp top-six finish, Tottenham signed off the campaign with a six-match Premier League unbeaten run and really showed some vast improvements in North London.

Last seen on home soil on competitive duties landing a stunning 3-0 romp against Leicester, the former Manchester United boss will be glad to have attacking talisman Harry Kane back this weekend.

While the England skipper might have had a quiet time while away with the Three Lions earlier in the week, the 26-year-old really enjoyed a purple patch at the back end of the 2019/2020 campaign.

Along with finding the net on the final round of fixtures against Crystal Palace, Kane recorded four goals in his final three appearances and will lead Spurs’ line on Sunday.

An immediate impact for James Rodriguez?

Having to settle for a 12th-place finish last season and someway off mounting any kind of European charge, it really has been a summer of change for Carlo Ancelotti’s new-look Everton side.

Despite signing off the 2019/2020 campaign with a sluggish display in their 3-1 defeat at home against a relegated Bournemouth, the former Napoli boss has been incredibly busy in terms of new arrivals on Merseyside.

While fans around Goodison might have been glad to see the likes of Abdoulaye Doucouré and Allan come through the doors over the past week, there is no doubt that one new arrival has made quite the splash.

Shocking many and making the move to England on a two-year-deal, former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich ace James Rodriguez has joined Ancelotti’s side and could be a real catalyst for Everton’s top-six charge this season.

Expected to make his debut for the Blues in North London this weekend, you might be interested to know that Rodriguez is priced as high as 4/1 with William Hill to bag a debut Premier League strike on Sunday.
